One person has died following a shooting near the University of Toronto Scarborough campus on Tuesday, according to police.
The Toronto Police Service said officers and emergency crews were called to the area of Old Ring Road and Military Trail, south of Ellesmere Road, shortly after 3:30 p.m. local time.
Police Respond to Reports of Gunfire
In a post on X, Toronto police said a victim was located with a serious gunshot wound and was pronounced dead a short time later.

Homicide squad investigators were called to the scene as part of the response. Authorities have not released further details about the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
University of Toronto Issues Campus Alert
The University of Toronto issued an emergency alert to staff and students, stating it had received reports that the shooting occurred in the Highland Creek Valley.
“Police are responding. If you are in a UTSC building, stay where you are. If you are outdoors near the site, leave the area immediately or seek safe shelter,” the alert said.
Investigation Ongoing Near UTSC
Police confirmed the investigation remains active as officers continue working in the area near the Scarborough campus.
