Share

Confusion spread across the NFL community after misleading posts on X (formerly Twitter) and Facebook falsely claimed that Washington Commanders legend Art Monk had died at the age of 68. The claims reportedly originated from random online posts and even a misleading Wikipedia update listing him as deceased.

Fans Question the Viral Claims

As the rumors grew, fans turned to social media seeking confirmation about Art Monk’s wellbeing.

“Good morning @Commanders nation can we get an official wellness check on our a legend Art Monk. I keep seeing posts about him passing,” one user wrote on X.

Some even began posting condolences despite the lack of verification.

Is Art Monk Dead? No — The NFL Icon Is Alive

Despite the viral posts, Art Monk is alive, and none of the reports were confirmed by his family or representatives.

Former NFL player Brian Mitchell strongly dismissed the false claims, stating: “People like putting BS on the internet. Well Art’s wife has responded to the fake news. Please stop putting stuff like this out. It’s totally disrespectful to the person and their family!!”

Mitchell also shared a screenshot of an Instagram Story from Monk’s wife, Desiree, confirming Art is “alive and well” and calling the widespread rumors “fake news.”
