President Donald Trump thrilled the crowd as he danced to the Village People’s “YMCA” during the US Navy’s 250th anniversary celebration in Norfolk, Virginia on Sunday. Despite the ongoing government shutdown, an estimated 10,000 attendees cheered and laughed as Trump ended his speech with the energetic dance.

Government Shutdown Remarks

The partial government shutdown, now in its fifth day, has furloughed thousands of federal employees and delayed projects in Democratic-run cities like New York and Chicago.

Trump criticized Democrats over the stalemate, promising: “Service members will receive all their pay despite the shutdown.”

Senate Democrats cited concerns about healthcare subsidies, Medicaid cuts, and spending priorities as reasons for rejecting continued government operations.

Military Celebration and Demonstrations

During the celebration, Trump and First Lady Melania Trump visited the USS George HW Bush, meeting sailors, handing out challenge coins, and watching military demonstrations.

The event featured Navy destroyers firing missiles, SEALs descending from helicopters, and fighter jets catapulting off the aircraft carrier, showcasing the Navy’s capabilities.

High-profile attendees included Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, Navy Secretary John Phelan, Veterans Affairs Secretary Doug Collins, and former White House doctor Rep. Ronny Jackson.

Trump’s Focus on Military Support

Trump has increasingly emphasized military support, proposing the use of troops to patrol U.S. cities and describing American cities as potential training grounds.

Officials, including Hegseth, are reshaping Pentagon culture by introducing directives such as “male-level” physical fitness standards and ending certain “woke” policies.

The administration has also taken action against Caribbean drug cartels, carrying out four strikes on boats allegedly involved in trafficking.
