Authorities have placed the US Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, and the nearby Naval Support Activity Annapolis on lockdown following reported threats on Thursday. A Navy official confirmed the situation to USNI News, describing the move as a precautionary measure.

Officials Urge Public to Avoid the Area

Local police and base officials are coordinating closely to assess the potential threat. Faculty, students, and staff at the academy have been instructed to shelter in place while investigations continue.

A Naval Academy spokesperson stated: “Naval Support Activity Annapolis, in coordination with local law enforcement, is currently responding to reports of threats made to the Naval Academy.”

City of Annapolis Issues Statement

The City of Annapolis posted an update on social media, saying:

“From USNA: Naval Support Activity Annapolis, in coordination with local law enforcement, is currently responding to reports of threats made to the Naval Academy. The base is on lockdown out of an abundance of caution. This is a developing situation and we will provide updates as they become available. Please avoid the area until further notice.”

Investigation Ongoing

Officials have not provided details on the nature of the threats. The lockdown remains in effect out of an abundance of caution as law enforcement and military officials continue their investigation.
