Shane Tamura has been identified as the gunman who opened fire inside a Midtown Manhattan building in New York City on Monday, injuring at least three people.
Who is Shane Tamura?
Tamura is reportedly a Las Vegas native and, according to unconfirmed reports, is 27 years old. He is a former football player who allegedly holds a concealed carry permit from Nevada, a photo of which has surfaced on social media.
On Monday, just before 6:30 PM, Tamura entered a skyscraper at 345 Park Avenue in Midtown Manhattan, opening fire and injuring a police officer along with two others. Tragically, he was later found deceased on the 33rd floor from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The building houses major offices, including the headquarters of Blackstone, the NFL, and KPMG.
Possible Motive?
Shane Tamura was recognized as a standout running back during high school, graduating in 2016 and playing football for Granada Hills.
Some unconfirmed reports suggest that he may have failed to achieve his goal of entering the NFL, which could have potentially motivated him to target the building that houses the NFL headquarters. However, these claims have yet to be verified, and police have not released an official statement regarding his background or possible motives.
