WhatsApp has apparently begun rolling out a new privacy feature. This allows users to select the privacy level of the links provided in their chats. The functionality has yet to be publicly revealed, but it has been noticed on several beta testing accounts. WhatsApp is also rumoured to be creating a new video-viewing capability for its app.
According to recent reports, the company is developing a locked chats feature for linked devices, which will be accessible in a later version. WhatsApp initially released the Chat Lock functionality for smartphones in May 2023.
According to an Android Police report, WhatsApp has begun pushing out a link privacy feature to beta testers. This feature allows users to turn off link previews, which means there will be no thumbnail preview or any article-related details alongside the link. This will not reveal any overt information about the link to anyone wanting to tap into the chats.
This functionality is also intended to help clean chat rooms and make them easier to traverse. More crucially, it is supposed to help prevent data leaks. WhatsApp beta testers can find this functionality in the Disable link previews option by going to Privacy > Advanced in the WhatsApp settings menu. LoudFact confirmed that the feature is enabled in the current WhatsApp beta version.
Meanwhile, WhatsApp feature tracker WABetaInfo said that the company is creating a new video viewing capability. This would allow users to see videos provided by contacts on the app in a picture-in-picture format. This is comparable to the picture-in-picture feature found while watching YouTube and Instagram videos posted on WhatsApp.

According to the report, picture-in-picture viewing for WhatsApp media videos is only available within the WhatsApp app and not through other apps. This implies that you can use this function to view a video sent by one of your contacts, then exit the chat and communicate in other chats or groups on WhatsApp while the video continues to play in a small window. It also stated that this feature is still in development and will not be available to beta testers until later. As a result, it is unlikely that it will be released to the public very soon.
