Vancouver Airport: Flights Grounded Amid Police Incident at YVR

An incident at Vancouver International Airport (YVR) on Tuesday afternoon led to grounded flights and delayed arrivals, causing significant disruptions for travelers. Passengers reported experiencing a temporary halt in operations as authorities responded to the situation.

In an official statement, Vancouver airport officials disclosed, “Shortly before 1:30 p.m. this afternoon, a security incident involving a small private aircraft in the airspace near YVR prompted a temporary ground stop for arriving aircraft. RCMP responded, the aircraft landed safely, and the lone occupant was taken into custody.”

    Flight Disruptions and Passenger Experiences

During the 39-minute ground stop, nine inbound aircraft were diverted to alternate airports. The airline staff, YVR officials, and their partners worked collaboratively to assist affected passengers in reaching their destinations.

One passenger shared a video on social media, capturing the police response to the small aircraft on the runway. “Operations seem back to normal,” the passenger commented on X.

“But the small plane was chased on the runway by the police cars. When it stopped, the pilot came out walking backwards and was held on the ground by the police. The plane is still in the taxiway surrounded by police cars.”

    Resumption of Normal Operations

The Vancouver airport’s website indicated that there were several delays, impacting both arrivals and departures. However, the YVR statement reassured travelers that normal flight operations have now resumed.

“Flights are now operating normally in and out of YVR,” the statement read. “However, some flight delays are possible, and passengers should check directly with their airline or at yvr.ca before coming to the airport.”

As the situation unfolds and operations normalize, travelers are encouraged to stay informed about their flight statuses.
