192.168.1.4: IP Address Facts And Use for Local Networks

    192.168.1.4 Facts

192.168.1.4 is a local IP address that refers to the IP address in the range between 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.255. This IP range is most common among all Home broadband users as home broadband routers come with this IP range in default settings.

192.168.1.4 is the fourth address in this range and can be assigned to any device in your home network automatically by your router. However, if you have administrator access then you can modify it manually in your router settings.

    How 192.168.1.4 is Assigned Automatically?

IP address assigns automatically when your devices support dynamic address assignment. These devices can obtain an IP address in your home network automatically from your router using the dynamic host protocol (DHCP). During this auto-assignment, the router assigns one IP address to the device from the IP range which is called the DHCP pool.

Generally, home routers come with 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.255 IP range where router have 192.168.1.1 address and it manages IP from 192.168.1.2 to 192.168.1.255. During the DHCP pool, the router can assign any available IP from this IP range mostly in sequential order.

    How To Manually Assign 192.168.1.4?

Nowadays almost every device has the option to set the IP address manually. Whether it’s PC, gaming console, handset, or some other device you can assign specific IP to them through your router control panel.

Log in to your router control panel using router Ip and set 192.168.1.4 or you can set it in your IP or Wi-Fi configuration screen on the device. If your router doesn’t have advanced setup options you can set the IP in your device and enable a subnet mask in your router which must be configured to support 192.168.1.4.

    Common Issues With Solution

    IP address conflict

IP address conflicts result when two devices on the same network are given the same address. Most of the home network routers have 192.168.1.4 in their DHCP pool by default, and they do not check whether it has already been assigned to a client manually before assigning it to a client automatically.

You may encounter IP conflict in this case when two devices on the same network are assigned with 192.168.1.4 one manually and the other automatically resulting in failed connection issues for both.

    Continuous Disconnect

If one device is assigned with dynamic IP address 192.168.1.4 then it can be reassigned to a different IP address if it keeps disconnecting from the home network for a long time. This length of time called a lease period in DHCP which varies depending on the network configuration but is often two or three days.

Even after the DHCP lease expires, a device is likely to still be assigned with the same address the next time it joins the network unless other devices have also had their leases expire.
