Samsung Working On AI-Powered Image-to-Video Feature: Report

The rumored image-to-video feature could be part of Samsung's Galaxy AI suite.

Samsung is apparently developing a new artificial intelligence (AI) feature that can turn images into videos. According to a source, the South Korean tech giant is working on an AI-powered image-to-video function that will convert any photo in the user’s gallery into a “few-second-long” video.

There are no more specifics about the feature available, but it is likely to be part of the company’s Galaxy AI suite of capabilities, which might be released with the next One UI 8.0 operating system (OS) update in the coming months.

In a post on X (previously known as Twitter), tipster PandaFlash stated that Samsung is working on an image-to-video AI feature for future smartphones. The tipster also claims that the feature can generate a few-second video with a single image as a reference. No other details were shared.

This information comes just days after the company announced that the Honor 400 series will include an image-to-video tool capable of producing up to five-second videos using photos as input. TikTok has also introduced a similar function, called AI Alive.

It’s worth mentioning that both of these capabilities just animate the image in different styles rather than generating creative and abstract videos using the source image as a reference point. In some ways, it functions more as an enhancement than a generation feature.

Honor said that its AI functionality will be powered by Google’s Veo 2 video generating model. It is possible that Samsung will use the same model to provide the image-to-video feature. In 2024, the company collaborated with the Mountain View-based tech gaint to offer the Circle to Search feature in the Galaxy S24 series.

Samsung’s AI-powered video-making tool would enhance Galaxy AI’s multimodal capabilities. The suite features tools for generating images from text prompts or image inputs. However, there are currently no video-generating tools. This currently unidentified feature is thought to be part of the One UI 8.0 update.

The IT giant is also apparently developing an AI-powered video summarization tool. This application is said to be capable of producing a text summary of any online video. The feature presumably works with platforms such as YouTube and Vimeo.
