Kenyon Dobie, identified as the second victim in Friday’s violent stabbing on Charlotte’s Blue Line light rail, remains in critical condition after being attacked with what police described as a large knife.
The incident took place on December 5 inside a Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) train, and Dobie has since launched a GoFundMe campaign to help cover medical costs.
According to CATS, the confrontation began as a verbal dispute that “escalated to the point of a stabbing.” Dobie reportedly intervened to stop the suspect from attacking another passenger and was severely injured in the process.
GoFundMe Surpasses Goal After Dobie’s Update on His Injuries
Dobie created a GoFundMe campaign on Monday seeking $25,000 for ongoing treatment following the attack. In his message to supporters, he wrote: “Luckily I survived but my body has taken plenty of damage. Have a tube running from my chest to a machine pumping blood out of my lungs.”
The fundraiser has now exceeded $40,000, with donations continuing to rise as residents across North Carolina rally behind him.
Suspect Identified in Court Documents
Accused Stabber Arrested Near Parkwood Station
Court filings identify Oscar Solarzano, 33, as the suspect in the stabbing. According to those documents, Solarzano was reportedly drinking inside the train when another rider asked him to stop. The situation escalated into a physical altercation, ultimately leading to the stabbing.
Police arrested Solarzano near Parkwood Station in Charlotte’s NoDa neighborhood. The affidavit states he appeared intoxicated, noting “red glassy eyes, slurred speech and an extremely strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from his breath.”
The court filing also notes that Solarzano had previously been banned from another light rail system in October 2025 for possessing a knife. Authorities have not released additional details while the investigation continues.
What Happened on the Day of the Incident
According to the police affidavit, the sequence began when Solarzano was allegedly drinking onboard the Blue Line train. When another passenger asked him to stop, an argument broke out. This dispute escalated into a stabbing in which two people were injured—one passenger and Dobie, who attempted to intervene.
Solarzano was taken into custody shortly after the attack. The case remains under investigation as CATS officials review safety procedures and riders continue calling for improved security measures on public transit.
