Meta AI Rolling Out in Europe With Limited Features

Finally, Meta AI is being introduced in European countries. Almost one and a half years after its first release, the company’s artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot will be accessible to customers in the European Union (EU).

This comes almost eight months after the tech giant based in Menlo Park said that the EU’s Data Protection Authority (DPA) had requested a delay in the region’s distribution of its AI services. Though several functions are unavailable for the region, the tech giant is now bringing Meta AI to all 41 European countries.

The social media giant revealed the rollout in a newsroom post, emphasizing that it has at last managed to get over the EU’s complex regulatory system and is now extending Meta AI in the region. Notably, the chatbot will be available in 41 EU countries and 21 foreign territories, marking the company’s largest Meta AI expansion to date.

Meta AI will be accessible throughout Europe as a chatbot on Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Messenger. The company announced that six European languages will now be supported, but it did not specify which ones. However, the region will not provide access to some features that are available elsewhere.

The AI-powered chatbot’s text-based functionalities will all operate as intended in European countries. Text queries, real-time online searches, generating content, and communication with Meta AI are all included in this.

Additionally, they will be able to ask questions of the chatbot by calling it up in group conversations. By giving the chatbot keywords, users will also be able to surface information like videos and reels.

Nevertheless, they won’t be able to use the tool to create or modify images or ask it questions about them. In the EU, voice-based features are also prohibited. According to the company, the AI model that powers the chatbot is not trained on EU user data, which may explain why Meta AI’s responses may also lack personalization and cultural sensitivity across the various European nations.
