Apple To Continue Releasing iOS 17 Security Updates: Report

iOS 17 security updates will be accessible for a while after iOS 18 is released.

Apple announced that the stable version of iOS 18 will be released to eligible devices on September 16. The announcement came during the company’s “It’s Glowtime” event. Users can, however, stay on iOS 17 and continue receiving security updates.

This concession will benefit users who want to avoid instantly upgrading to the new operating system and deal with small issues and glitches that may be present at launch.

According to a 9to5Mac report, iPhone users can continue to use iOS 17 even after the latest version of the operating system is released. Apple released the iOS 17.7 Release Candidate (RC) for developers and public beta testers on Monday, alongside the iOS 18 RC, indicating that the upgrade will be available for users who aren’t eager to try out iOS 18.

While there are no new features in iOS 17.7 RC, it does include the most recent security patches and bug fixes. When iOS 17 was released last year, Apple provided users with a limited number of iOS 16 security updates.

If this trend continues this year, iOS 17 security updates may be accessible for users after the release of iOS 18. After a set period, security updates will only be available to devices that do not support iOS 18, as the future version is compatible with all phones running iOS 17.

Users who decide not to update their iPhone to the most recent OS will miss out on all of the new features, including Home Screen customization, Apple Intelligence, a redesigned Control Center, replaceable Lock Screen icons, and more.

They will, however, be able to avoid any small bugs or faults in the new operating system, which may take the tech giant a few weeks to resolve. This could be critical if the iPhone is a daily driver or is used for professional reasons.
