Gaza Hospital Strike Kills 20: Netanyahu Expresses Deep Regret

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he “deeply regrets the tragic mishap” at Nasser Hospital in Gaza, where an attack killed at least 20 people, including five journalists.

In a statement posted on X, Netanyahu wrote that Israel deeply regretted the incident. His office added that Israel values the work of journalists, medical staff, and all civilians. The military is conducting a thorough investigation, emphasizing that Israel’s war is with Hamas, aiming to defeat the group and secure the release of hostages.

Journalists Among the Deceased

The attack claimed the lives of journalists from major international outlets, including Reuters, the Associated Press, and Al Jazeera. Victims included:

  • Mariam Daqqa, 33, freelancing for the Associated Press since the start of the Gaza war
  • Mohammed Salam, Al Jazeera
  • Hussam al-Masri, Reuters cameraman
  • Moaz Abu Taha
  • Ahmad Abu Aziz

Reuters reported that photographer Hatem Khaled was injured in the strike.

The Gaza Government Media Office later reported that Hassan Douhan, a journalist for the Palestinian newspaper Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, was fatally shot by Israeli forces in al-Mawasi, Khan Younis. The office accused Israel of committing crimes against journalists and urged the international community and press freedom groups to condemn the killings, hold Israel accountable, and pursue justice in international courts.
