A pedestrian was killed and several others were injured after a serious multi-vehicle crash in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday afternoon, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.
The collision occurred around 3:50 p.m. at the intersection of 16th Street and L Street Northwest, just a few blocks north of the White House, during the height of rush-hour traffic.
Pedestrian Killed, Multiple Injuries Reported
Authorities said four vehicles were involved in the crash. A pedestrian was struck and pronounced dead at the scene. At least three other people were transported to local hospitals with injuries. Their conditions have not been disclosed.
Police have not yet confirmed whether the fatality involved a pedestrian or an occupant of one of the vehicles, and the victim’s identity has not been released pending family notification.

Intersection Shut Down After High-Impact Collision
The intersection of 16th and L streets NW was closed for several hours as emergency crews responded and investigators worked to reconstruct the crash.
Photos and video from the scene showed severe damage to multiple vehicles, indicating the collision involved significant force. Debris was scattered across the roadway as first responders assisted the injured.
Investigation Underway
Police said the cause of the crash remains under investigation. No arrests or citations have been announced, and authorities have not said whether speed, impairment, or traffic violations may have played a role.
Drivers were advised to avoid the area as traffic was diverted during the response and investigation.
