Internationally acclaimed opera and jazz vocalist Jubilant Sykes has been identified as the victim in an active homicide investigation in Santa Monica. Police responded to a home on the 1700 block of Delaware Avenue around 9:20 PM on December 8, 2025, after receiving a 911 call reporting an assault in progress, according to the Santa Monica Police Department (SMPD).

Officers Discover Jubilant Sykes With Fatal Injuries

When officers arrived, they met with the reporting party and were directed inside the residence. There, they found Jubilant Sykes suffering from severe stab wounds. Santa Monica Fire Department personnel arrived shortly after and pronounced him dead at the scene.

A neighbor had previously identified the victim as Sykes before authorities formally confirmed his identity.

Son Micah Sykes Arrested at the Scene

According to SMPD, Sykes’ son, 31-year-old Micah Sykes, was found inside the home and taken into custody without resistance. Police later reported that the 911 call was made by Sykes’ wife, who told officers she witnessed the assault involving their son.

Authorities also noted that the suspect has a known history of mental illness.

Detectives secured the home, obtained a search warrant, and forensic teams are now processing key evidence, including the weapon recovered at the scene.

Police Confirm No Ongoing Threat to the Community

Investigators believe the killing was an isolated domestic incident inside the household.
SMPD added that officers will continue monitoring the neighborhood, though there is no active threat to the public.

Police say the suspect will be booked on homicide charges and the case will be forwarded to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for filing consideration.
