Apple Vision Pro Gets New Immersive Video Content

Apple Vision Pro, which was introduced at last year’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), will now support new immersive video content. The company said on Thursday that new series and films captured with Apple Immersive Video will be accessible exclusively to Apple Vision Pro users beginning this week.

Apple’s immersive video technology uses a 180-degree field of view 8K 3D video capture combined with spatial audio to provide an immersive experience. Meanwhile, recent reports suggest that the Cupertino-based tech giant is working on newer versions of the AR/VR headset.

Apple Vision Pro users in the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, France, Germany, Japan, and Singapore will have free access to the new Apple Immersive video content through the Apple TV app. Users in China will be able to access it using the Migu Video and Tencent Video applications.

Submerged is one of the new immersive videos accessible to Apple Vision Pro users. It is the first short film scripted for the medium and is scheduled to be released “this fall,” but the company did not provide a specific release date. The movie, which is set during World War II, was written and directed by Academy Award winner Edward Berger.

Apple Vision Pro users will also be able to see an immersive short film featuring Sabrina Ionescu and Stephen Curry in the first-ever NBA vs. WNBA 3-Point Challenge during the 2024 NBA All-Star Weekend in Indianapolis.

Meanwhile, Abel Tesfaye (The Weeknd) plans to release an unspecified “immersive experience” especially for the platform later this year. It could be a music video or a live performance.

The latter is an immersive wildlife documentary, and the former allows users to virtually travel to diverse places throughout the world.
