Uganda’s main opposition party, the National Unity Platform (NUP), said its leader Bobi Wine was forcibly taken by military personnel to an unknown location following an operation at his family home.

According to the party, a military helicopter landed at Wine’s residence, where armed officers allegedly assaulted his private security guards and cut electricity to the compound.
What Happened at Bobi Wine’s Home
NUP said the operation involved heavy security presence and significant disruption at the property. The party claimed that the electricity supply was deliberately shut off and that the electric fence surrounding the residence was destroyed.
“An army helicopter has landed in President Bobi Wine’s compound and forcibly taken him away to an unknown destination,” the party said in a statement.
NUP added that Wine’s private guards were “violently assaulted despite having committed no offense.”
Why Was Bobi Wine Taken by the Army?
As of now, no official reason has been given for the military action. Ugandan authorities have not released any statement explaining why Wine was taken or where he is being held.
The opposition party described the incident as a serious escalation and warned that security forces appeared to be attempting to break further into the home.
Tensions After Disputed Election Results
Earlier in the day, Wine had publicly rejected election results announced by Simon Byabakama, alleging a lack of transparency in how the figures were compiled.
“IGNORE the fake results being announced by Byabakama. He can’t tell anybody where those results are coming from,” Wine wrote, adding that opposition agents were demanding answers at the tally center.
IGNORE the fake results being announced by Byabakama. He can’t tell anybody where those results are coming from. Our agents at the tally centre are asking him for the source of these results, and the regime enabler can’t say a thing. The PEOPLE OF UGANDA will have the final say…

The incident follows Wine’s recent election loss to long-time president Yoweri Museveni, a result the opposition has strongly contested.
Political Fallout Likely
Bobi Wine, whose real name is Robert Kyagulanyi, is one of Uganda’s most prominent opposition figures and a former presidential candidate. His reported detention is expected to further heighten tensions between the government and opposition groups, who have repeatedly accused authorities of suppressing dissent and targeting critics.
As of publication, Wine’s location remains unknown and officials have not commented on the situation.
