Law enforcement has identified a “person of interest” in the deadly Brown University shooting, according to a CBS News report citing multiple sources. Authorities said they are actively searching for the individual and have obtained a warrant as the investigation intensifies.

The shooting occurred Saturday afternoon inside a classroom at Brown University’s Barus & Holley engineering building during final exams. Two students were killed and nine others were injured, officials confirmed.

Victims Identified

The students who lost their lives were Ella Cook, a sophomore from Alabama, and Mukhammad Aziz Umurzokov, a freshman from Uzbekistan.

Brown University President Christina H. Paxson described the victims as “brilliant and beloved” and expressed condolences to their families, friends, and classmates as the campus community continues to mourn.

What Police and FBI Have Released

Police and the FBI released images and video footage on Wednesday showing the person of interest. The footage depicts a male wearing black clothing and a face mask walking through a nearby neighborhood several hours before the shooting.

Former FBI official John Mulvaney said the video appears to show the individual “casing the neighborhood” ahead of the attack.

Authorities are urging the public to review the footage carefully and report any information that could help identify the suspect.

$50,000 Reward Offered

The FBI has announced a $50,000 reward for information leading to the identification, arrest, and conviction of the person responsible for the shooting.

Police said the manhunt remains active and that tips from the public are critical as investigators work to locate the suspect.

Are the Brown and MIT Shootings Connected?

Investigators are also examining whether the Brown University shooting is connected to the fatal shooting of MIT professor Nuno F.G. Loureiro at his home in Brookline, Massachusetts, just two days later.

Loureiro, a physicist and director of MIT’s Plasma Science and Fusion Center, was shot at his home on Gibbs Street, prompting a separate homicide investigation.

However, no confirmed link has been found, officials said.

Ted Docks, special agent in charge of the FBI’s Boston office, stated during a briefing Tuesday that authorities have not established any connection between the two cases.
