A widespread power outage left nearly 55,000 customers in Wyoming without electricity on Thursday, with Casper and several nearby communities among the hardest hit. The outage began shortly after 12:45 p.m. local time, affecting homes, businesses, and essential services across the region.

Casper and Surrounding Towns Impacted

According to the Rocky Mountain Power outage map, the blackout spread across Casper, Mills, Evansville, and Bar Nunn. Other parts of Wyoming, including Buffalo and Gillette, also reported disruptions.

Similar outages were noted in South Dakota and Utah, though officials have not confirmed whether the incidents are linked.

Power Restoration Efforts Underway

In a Facebook update, Rocky Mountain Power estimated that electricity could be restored by 9:45 p.m. on Thursday. However, some Casper residents reported power returning as early as 1:15 p.m. in certain neighborhoods.

A resident from Evansville said the electricity had “flicked on and off” multiple times before stabilizing.

Schools Remain Open Despite Outage

The Natrona County School District addressed the situation on social media, confirming that schools “are currently operating for the school day,” while promising further updates “if things change.”
