Police responded to reports of gunfire outside Wiregrass Commons Mall, commonly known as Dothan Mall, in Dothan, Alabama, on Sunday afternoon.
According to Lt. Scott Owens of the Dothan Police Department, one person was shot outside the Dillard’s department store around 4 p.m. local time. Earlier reports suggesting multiple victims were later clarified as inaccurate.
Heavy Police Presence at the Scene
Videos shared on social media captured a large police presence at the scene, with several officers securing the area. One user posted footage on X (formerly Twitter) with the caption: “Pray for Dothan.”
Police have since urged residents to avoid the area near Spirit Halloween, located close to where the shooting occurred.

Authorities confirmed that a suspect has been taken into custody, though no further details have been released at this time. The extent of the victim’s injuries remains unknown.
