Jimmy Dean Corn Dogs Recalled for Wood Contamination

More than 50 million pounds of frozen corn dogs and sausage products have been recalled after reports revealed they may be contaminated with pieces of wood.

The affected products include corn dogs sold under the State Fair brand and pancakes and sausages on a stick sold under the Jimmy Dean brand.

Tyson Foods Issues Voluntary Recall

The Hillshire Brand Company, a subsidiary of Tyson Foods, announced a voluntary recall on September 27 for over two dozen frozen products, according to the U.S. Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).

In a statement, Tyson Foods said it issued the recall “out of an abundance of caution” and confirmed that no other State Fair or Jimmy Dean products are impacted.

Where Were the Recalled Jimmy Dean Corn Dogs Sold?

According to the recall notice, the contaminated products were distributed nationwide through:

  • Online retailers
  • Grocery stores
  • Food service outlets
  • School districts
  • Department of Defense facilities

Consumer Complaints and Injuries Reported

The recall was triggered after multiple complaints surfaced. The notice states that the affected products may contain pieces of wood embedded in the batter.

Hillshire Brands confirmed receiving several complaints, including five reports of injuries. Following an investigation, the company found that wooden sticks may have entered the production process before battering.

How to Identify the Recalled Products

The recalled Jimmy Dean and State Fair products were produced between March 17 and September 26. They can be identified by:

  • Establishment numbers: “EST-582” or “P-894”
  • Use by / Sell by dates printed on the packaging

What Consumers Should Do

The FSIS urges consumers not to eat the affected products. If you have the recalled items:

  • Do not consume them
  • Throw them away or return them to the store of purchase
