Harris County SWAT officers, deputies, and firefighters responded Friday to a standoff at a home on the 2000 block of Shadow Rock Drive in Kingwood, Texas. Authorities were executing a warrant for a 46-year-old man wanted on multiple charges, including felony assault and a potential protective warrant violation from Montgomery County.

Suspect Fires Shots and Ignites Blaze

According to Sheriff Ed Gonzalez, officers tried to make contact, but the individual refused to cooperate and allegedly fired shots, striking equipment but causing no injuries.

“Chemical munitions were deployed into the home, but they weren’t effective,” Gonzalez said during a mid-afternoon update.

Shortly before 2:30 p.m., the barricaded suspect reportedly set a fire inside the home. Firefighters responded from protected positions outside the property while neighbors were evacuated and CenterPoint managed a nearby gas line for safety.

Firefighters Discover Charred Remains

By around 5 p.m., Houston Fire members entered the home and found a deceased person along with a rifle, Sheriff Gonzalez confirmed. Authorities have not yet verified if the deceased is the suspect for whom the warrant was issued.

Nearby Schools Placed on Secure Mode

The standoff impacted local schools. Bear Branch Elementary, Woodland Hills Elementary, and Kingwood Middle School were placed on “secure mode” during the incident. Students remained on campus until parents or guardians could pick them up.

A local parent praised the quick communication from authorities: “It was frightening to know there was gunfire and a fire so close, but the schools acted quickly.”

Investigation Ongoing

Authorities continue to investigate the incident and have not released the identity of the deceased. Harris County officials emphasized that the scene is now secured, and there is no further threat to the public.

Sheriff Gonzalez urged residents to remain alert and follow any future advisories, particularly those living near Shadow Rock Drive and the surrounding areas.
