Independence Day celebrations in Karachi ended in tragedy as celebratory aerial firing killed three people, including an eight-year-old girl and a senior citizen. Rescue officials told Geo News that 64 others were injured in separate gunfire incidents across the city.

Police Condemn ‘Reckless’ Acts, Launch Probe

Authorities labeled the incidents “reckless and dangerous” and urged citizens to avoid such practices. “We will take strict action against those behind the aerial firing,” police officials assured.

Over 20 Suspects Arrested, Weapons Seized

Law enforcement arrested more than 20 suspects from various neighborhoods, seizing modern firearms and ammunition. The injured were taken to Civil Hospital, Jinnah Hospital, Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, and private facilities in Gulistan-e-Jauhar.

Deadly Trend of Aerial Firing Continues

Despite repeated warnings, celebratory firing remains a persistent menace in Karachi. Earlier this year, 42 people were killed and 233 were injured in similar gun-related incidents, including cases linked to robberies and personal disputes.

According to reports, 95 people suffered injuries from aerial firing in 2024, while 80 were hurt in 2023—a grim reminder of how festive joy often turns fatal in Pakistan’s largest city.
