Paraglider Crashes During Take-Off in Himachal, India: Tourist Killed

Gujurat Tourist (Satish - 27) Dies from Injuries and Paraglider Pilot Remains in Treatment.

Share

A shocking video has emerged of a paraglider crashing just seconds after taking flight with a Gujarat tourist and the pilot in Himachal Pradesh, India, earlier this week. The incident, occurring at the Indru Nag Paragliding Site near Dharamshala, has raised serious concerns about safety protocols in adventure sports.

Details of the Incident

The video, recorded by a bystander, shows a staff member pushing Satish, aged 27, and the paraglider pilot, Suraj, down a slope for take-off. Tragically, the paraglider crashed during the launch just moments later.

Following the crash, Satish sustained severe injuries and was rushed to Zonal Hospital Dharamshala, later referred to Tanda Medical College, where he succumbed to his injuries on Monday.

Safety Concerns and Investigation

This accident occurred just two days before a planned suspension of all adventure activities in the area due to the onset of the monsoon season on June 15. In light of this tragic incident, the local station house officer (SHO) has been tasked with investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.

History of Paragliding Incidents in India

This incident adds to a troubling statistic: over the past 30 months, more than 12 individuals have died while paragliding in Himachal Pradesh, India. Most fatalities have occurred among free flyers who venture into high-risk zones or inner valleys without adequate knowledge of local topography and wind conditions.

As the investigation unfolds, the focus will be on enhancing safety measures for adventure sports in India, aiming to prevent such tragedies in the future.
