A new feature that will enable users to halt video playback in case they want to go to sleep while watching content is being tested by YouTube. The video streaming giant has unveiled a new experimental function called Sleep Timer, which is accessible for a limited duration.

Its reception will determine when and how widely the company may deploy it to users. The company is currently testing a new artificial intelligence (AI) solution that utilizes Gemini, enabling content creators to create video outlines in response to text prompts and ideas for video titles and thumbnails.

YouTube announced the launch of the Sleep Timer feature in a statement on its website. “Sleep Timer lets you set a timer to automatically pause playback after a certain amount of time,” the company said in describing the feature.

When a video is playing, users can access the settings menu by tapping the gear icon located in the upper right corner of the video interface. They can also access the YouTube app on their smartphone or the browser client on their desktop or phone. The user needs to be logged into their account to use the function.

The options to pause the playback after 10, 15, 20, 30, 45, and 60 minutes can be found in the settings menu under the Sleep Timer feature. There is also an option to stop auto playback after the video ends. This feature is currently only available to YouTube Premium users.
