WhatsApp Working on Theme Colours and More on Latest iOS Beta

WhatsApp is working on a feature that would allow users to choose a theme accent for the popular messaging app for iOS, according to a feature tracker. The company recently modified the design of the iOS beta version of the app, adding a green tint to certain portions of the interface.

It looks like the company will soon allow users to select between five theme colour accents for the app in a future release. Meanwhile, the service is apparently testing a sticker editor feature in the most recent beta version.

According to WABetaInfo, a recent WhatsApp beta for iOS update contains some code indicating that users may soon be able to select an accent colour to theme some areas of the UI. These include the message counts on the right side of the chat list, the circles around status updates, the colours of selected tabs at the bottom, and a few UI buttons.

On the most recent stable version of WhatsApp for iOS, these UI elements are highlighted in blue colour accent. WABetaInfo released a screenshot of five colour accents, including WhatsApp’s green accent, the usual blue option, an off-white tint, pink, and purple. Users will be informed that selecting one of the five selections will only change the app’s main branding colour.

Meanwhile, a newer version — WhatsApp beta for iOS 24.1.10.72 — is being released to testers through the TestFlight program, along with support for a new feature, according to WABetaInfo. Beta testers can now use a newly included sticker editor, which may eliminate the need for these party sticker apps entirely.

According to WABetaInfo, tapping existing stickers allows beta testers to update them using the update Sticker button. Meanwhile, another button labelled Create Your Own allows users to create their own stickers within the app. Users will also be able to remove backgrounds from photographs on their phone while making stickers.

While the new sticker editor is presently being rolled out to beta testers, the colour accent picker may not be available for a long because it is still under development, according to the feature tracker. Because WhatsApp normally maintains feature parity between both platforms, these capabilities are likely to make their way to WhatsApp for Android in the future.
