YouTube Reportedly Testing Custom Thumbnails for Playlists

It's also possible that the feature has image dimension requirements, and not abiding by it may result in upload failure.

A report suggests that YouTube may soon let users add thumbnails for their own playlists. Thumbnails for user-published videos can now be uploaded to the video-streaming platform.

Nevertheless, their curated playlists need access to the same capabilities. However, This could soon change as an APK breakdown of the YouTube for Android beta app revealed that Android users will soon be able to create playlist thumbnails.

Android Authority said in a report that it found a code suggesting a feature allowing users to add playlist thumbnails. The feature was discovered after the YouTube for Android beta app version 9.26.33 was taken apart using an APK. There are rumors that it contains code that references “CustomThumbnailCreationActivity,” which could refer to the possibility of creating personalized playlist thumbnails.

Further, strings indicating “upload failure” are reportedly included, alerting the user to the possibility of having to attempt again. It is also hypothesized that the feature has dimension limitations because one of the strings mentions that the thumbnail image’s failure to upload could be due to its small dimensions.

Playlists cannot currently have custom thumbnails uploaded by users for videos uploaded to YouTube for Android. Usually, the first video saved in the playlist is the basis for the thumbnail.

Thumbnails cannot be custom-uploaded, but they can be set to a different video. With this modification, the user will have more options to personalize the playlist as they can choose any image as the thumbnail rather than just the video thumbnails.

The video streaming platform is also reported to be developing a sleep timer for its Android app. Users might be able to set up a sleep timer with it, which would let them control when the video stops playing on its own. Moreover, the smartphone’s home screen may display a notification for the sleep timer.
