Putin to Trump: “Russia Won’t Abandon Its Goals in Ukraine” During Call

During the Putin-Trump Call, Russian President Vladimir Putin informed US President Donald Trump that Moscow will not abandon its goals in Ukraine but remains open to further negotiations, according to the Kremlin.

The Kremlin emphasised that dialogue between the two leaders could pave the way for a peaceful resolution, despite ongoing tensions in the region. Analysts believe that this openness to negotiation may signal a potential shift in Russia’s approach to the conflict.

Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov stated, “Our president emphasized that Russia will achieve its stated objectives, addressing the root causes of the current situation.” He added, “Russia will not give up on these aims.” Ushakov also mentioned that Putin expressed readiness to continue the negotiation process during their nearly hour-long conversation.

In addition, Putin highlighted the importance of diplomatic solutions to tensions in Iran and the broader Middle East. “The Russian side stressed the need to resolve all disputed issues and conflicts solely through political and diplomatic means,” Ushakov explained.

These discussions follow the Trump administration’s recent decision to pause the transfer of arms to Ukraine after a record Russian airstrike, surprising Kyiv and its allies. The White House indicated that the suspension was due to concerns over munitions stockpiles amid ongoing conflicts as the war enters its fourth year.

While President Trump aimed for a swift resolution to the Ukraine war, his administration’s efforts have seen minimal progress. Putin has consistently rejected calls to halt hostilities and has declined requests for a direct meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Despite some lower-level negotiations resulting in prisoner swaps, broader resolutions to the conflict remain elusive.

International observers fear that without significant diplomatic breakthroughs, the situation could further deteriorate, leading to increased instability in the region. As winter approaches, the humanitarian crisis continues to escalate, with millions of civilians caught in the crossfire and in desperate need of aid.
