Authorities in Georgia are investigating an active shooter situation at Fort Stewart in Hinesville, prompting an immediate lockdown and urgent safety warnings for local residents.

The Hinesville Police Department confirmed to WTOC that officers were responding to an active shooter on Monday, December 8.

Residents Ordered to Shelter Indoors

According to early reports, an alert was issued across nearby neighborhoods warning residents of the ongoing threat. Police placed Fort Stewart under lockdown and urged everyone in the area to remain indoors and keep their doors closed until further notice.

No injuries have been reported at this time.

Fort Stewart Confirms Shelter-in-Place Order

The Fort Stewart Army Base released a public statement on social media, confirming a shelter-in-place directive due to an active incident within the housing area.

The base wrote: “A shelter in place has been issued on Fort Stewart due to an ongoing incident in the housing area. Law enforcement are currently on scene. Individuals are asked to stay indoors. Follow our official Fort Stewart-Hunter Army Airfield channels for updates.”

Authorities continue to secure the area and advise residents to follow official channels for updates as the situation develops.
