Walmart to Close All US Stores on December 25, 2025

Nationwide Christmas Day Shutdown Confirmed.

Share

Walmart has officially announced that all of its more than 4,600 stores across the United States will shut down on December 25, 2025, marking a complete 24-hour nationwide closure. This makes Christmas Day one of only two days each year when Walmart fully halts operations, the other being Thanksgiving Day.

Adjusted Hours on December 24 for Holiday Shoppers

To ensure employees can begin their holiday celebrations without disruption, Walmart will operate with reduced hours on December 24, 2025. The retailer is urging customers to complete their Christmas shopping ahead of time to avoid last-minute complications.

This adjusted schedule triggers a national blackout period of over 24 hours, a holiday practice Walmart has continued annually in recognition of the federal Christmas observance.

Christmas Eve Hours and Reopening Schedule

According to Walmart, stores will be open from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on December 24, giving shoppers a 12-hour window to purchase Christmas essentials. All Walmart locations will remain closed throughout December 25 and reopen on the morning of December 26 with regular operating hours.

Walmart stated the holiday break allows employees meaningful personal time while also giving stores an opportunity to reorganize inventory and prepare for post-Christmas demand.

What Changes for Delivery, Pickup, and Services?

Despite the shortened in-store hours, Walmart is expanding its final-day online options to accommodate last-minute shoppers.

Extended Delivery Deadlines

Walmart will offer express delivery until 5:00 p.m. on December 24, one hour later than in 2024. Depending on item availability and local conditions, customers may receive orders in as little as 60 minutes.

Improved Same-Day Pickup

Same-day pickup remains available for orders placed before 12:00 p.m. on December 24, providing additional flexibility for holiday buyers.

“Get It Now” Feature Still Active

Walmart confirmed that its “get it now” tool—showing estimated delivery times before checkout—will continue to help customers gauge how quickly items can arrive.

With these updates, Walmart aims to balance customer convenience with employee well-being as the company prepares for one of the largest retail holidays of the year.
