Last year, WhatsApp was reported to be working on a new Web client interface featuring a sidebar and a dark mode. According to a new source, the updated layout has begun to roll out to select users.
The new WhatsApp Web feature is said to be available to some users who have enrolled in the Web client’s beta programme. This also suggests that a public deployment may not be far off.
According to WhatsApp update tracker WABetaInfo, the instant messaging platform has begun rolling out the new UI to select users. According to the source, not all users who signed up for the beta programme are receiving the functionality because the company is most likely doing a limited test currently.
The new interface does not introduce new features but rather rearranges the positioning of different parts of the platform in a well-designed area on a sidebar.
According to the screenshots given by the publication, the new WhatsApp Web interface has a dark mode, which will improve readability for some users who like a black-background-white-text design.
The sidebar features icons for Chats, Communities, Status Updates, Channels, Archived Chats, Starred Messages, and even Broadcasted messages. This also improves navigation for Starred messages and Archived chats, which were previously inaccessible with a single click.
The new interface is now being released to beta testers, and the feature will be available to all users in a few weeks, according to the report. Meta has been developing numerous features for WhatsApp.
