WhatsApp Rolls Out Redesigned Interface For Android Beta App

WhatsApp has finally started testing a redesigned Android layout, months after the company was seen working on a redesigned version of the popular chat app. The new layout replaces WhatsApp’s signature green top bar with a white top bar in the main conversation list and individual chats.

The new design adheres to Google’s Material Design 3 guidelines and enhances the appearance of the dark theme. As part of the newest beta version, WhatsApp has added new ‘outline’ icons for various buttons in the app.

We have installed the latest beta and noticed a redesigned UI with a white bar at the top and the WhatsApp text in green. When the dark theme is activated, the top bar becomes black and the text becomes white.

WhatsApp has also changed the color of the green accent used in the app’s light and dark themes. As a result, the color of the floating action button and other areas of the interface with green accents, such as the floating action button (FAB), appear brighter, especially when the dark mode is enabled.

Along with the recent color changes on the Android app, WhatsApp has replaced the solid icons for voice and video calls within chats and the camera icon on the main chat list, with outlines of the existing icons. These icons were discovered last month by a feature tracker on WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.23.20.10.

WhatsApp is also working on an update to its iOS app’s color palette, as well as new outline icons — the new design elements were recently spotted on WhatsApp beta for iOS 23.19.1.72. However, unlike its Android part, WhatsApp for iOS does not have a green top bar in the stable version of the app.

While the new UI does not appear to have reached iOS beta testers, both mobile platforms are anticipated to get support for new chat filters including All, Unread, Contacts, and Groups, which could make managing a lot of chats much easier. These filters, along with the redesigned UI, are planned to be rolled out to stable channel users in the coming months.
