Google announced many new features for Android users on Tuesday. Existing Android tools are adding multiple new features, including TalkBack and Circle to Search. Google Chrome will also get a new text-to-speech function, allowing users to effortlessly listen to articles and web pages.
Offline Google Maps are also being offered to Wear OS-compatible devices. Finally, the Android Earthquake Alerts System will be made available to a larger user base in the United States.
The tech giant described the new Android features in a blog post. Interestingly, these functionalities will be available on all supported Android smartphones, not just Pixels. Google has begun rolling out these features, but it could take up to 14 days until all users receive them.
TalkBack, Android’s screen reader, is getting a substantial improvement. The accessibility feature is intended for persons who have low eyesight or are blind. The functionality is now powered by Gemini, Google’s internal artificial intelligence (AI) model.
According to the company, the Gemini connection will enable the feature to deliver detailed audio descriptions of digital images, photos in the gallery, pictures in text messages, and social media posts.
A few days ago, a report stated that Google was developing a music search feature known as Circle to Search. The tech giant has now verified the feature. Users of Android devices that support the visual lookup capability will be able to recognize songs and music playing on the device or nearby. Users can activate the function and then hit the music button to see the track name and artist, as well as watch a YouTube video.
Google Chrome is now getting a text-to-speech feature, allowing Android users to listen to online pages in the browser. This allows users to listen to articles, blog posts, and other content. There are settings for listening speed, voice style, and language.

Previously, Google released the Android Earthquake Alerts System in beta for a limited number of users. The feature alerts users to earthquakes using crowd-sourced detection technology. This feature is now rolling out to all US users. However, it is not available to users outside of the United States.
Additionally, the company is introducing a functionality for Wear OS devices. Users with compatible operating systems will be able to download offline Google Maps to their devices. In this manner, users can use the smartwatch to check the map even without a smartphone. Furthermore, while the device is online, users can search for their destination using voice commands and display their current location with a simple tap on the watch face.
