Circle to Search Crop and Share Is Rolling Out to Android Users

Circle to Search, the visual search function introduced with the Samsung Galaxy S24 series, has received a new update. Google revealed a new crop and share function for the tool earlier this month, and it appears to have begun rolling out to users.

The feature will be available on all compatible Android handsets, according to the tech giant. This feature allows users to quickly capture a screenshot of a specific area of the screen and share it with others.

9to5Google detected this feature in an unreported Android device. According to the publication, screenshots created using this way are not saved on the smartphone unless they are shared with others. Once users gain access to the feature, they can use Circle to Search by long pressing the home button on their Android handset.

After that, by tapping on the lasso tool, users can choose either the entire screen or a portion of it. Once selected, this screenshot can be shared immediately through third-party messaging apps, Bluetooth, and other similar apps.

The screenshot can also be uploaded to Google Photos or saved in Google Keep via the share sheet. According to the report, the resolution of smaller images is low, and simply taking a screenshot and saving it to the smartphone may not be an effective option.

Earlier this month, Google mentioned this capability in a Gemini-related blog post. The message also noted the freshly launched Gemini feature called ‘Ask about this screen’.

When you open Gemini above another app, this additional choice displays above the floating Gemini window. Users can tap it to ask AI questions about the screen. A similar function known as ‘Ask about this video’ allows users to ask questions about a YouTube video.

Alternatively, Samsung introduced the Circle to Search feature to the Galaxy S21 FE. While it was initially claimed that the function would only be available in Asia, it has now been reported to be available in other regions, including the United States, Canada, and others. Circle to Search is also available for the Galaxy A series.
