Intel Core 14th Gen i9-14900KS, With 24 Cores Launched: Details

Recently, Intel announced the latest addition to the 14th Generation Core desktop processor family. The company touts the 14th Generation Intel Core i9-14900KS as the world’s fastest desktop processor.

The CPU is believed to have a clock speed of up to 6.2 GHz. It has 24 cores and 32 threads, and the chipmaker claims that the new desktop chip provides up to 15% higher gaming performance than the previous generation of processors. Additionally, the IT gaint debuted the Intel Core i9-14900K in October 2023.

In a statement, the chipmaker called to the 14th Generation Intel Core i9-14900KS as the world’s fastest desktop CPU based on clock speed. Using its patented Thermal Velocity Boost technology, the company says that the processor can reach a maximum turbo frequency of 6.2GHz.

It became available for purchase on March 14 at a starting price of $699. It is available worldwide as a boxed CPU and integrated into systems, and can be obtained through Intel’s authorized channels and original equipment manufacturer (OEM) partners.

At the launch, Roger Chandler, Intel Vice President and General Manager, Enthusiast PC and Workstation Segment, Intel Client Computing Group, said, “The Intel Core i9-14900KS showcases the full power and performance potential of the Intel Core 14th Gen desktop processor family and its performance hybrid architecture. Extreme PC enthusiasts – especially gamers and creators – can now enjoy the i9-14900KS’ record-breaking 6.2 GHz frequency while taking their desktop experience to higher levels of performance than ever before.”

The Intel Core i9-14900KS has 24 cores, including eight Performance (P) cores and 16 Efficient (E) cores, as well as 32 threads. It also supports 150 watts of processor base power and 20 PCIe lanes, 16 of which are PCIe 5.0 and the remaining four PCIe 4.0 lanes. It also has 36 MB of Intel Smart Cache.

The Intel Core i9-14900KS offers Intel Application Optimisation Overview (APO), which can improve performance by up to 11 percent for supported software titles. The CPU can handle memory up to 192GB of DDR5 5600 MTps or DDR4 3200 MTps. It is also compatible with the Z790 and Z690 motherboards.

Furthermore, Intel stated that the processor provides significant improvements for gamers and content creators. In terms of game performance, the company claims that the current processor is 15% faster than the previous version, while it can improve compute-intensive processes such as 3D production and multitasking by up to 73%.
