Grand Theft Auto 6 Delayed – Will Launch on May 26, 2026

“We are very sorry that this is later than you expected," Rockstar Games said in its announcement.

Rockstar Games said Friday that Grand Theft Auto 6 has been postponed and will now be released on May 26, 2026. The long-awaited title, which was revealed in December 2023, was scheduled to be released in the fall of 2025, as confirmed multiple times by Rockstar parent company Take-Two Interactive.

While GTA 6 now has a set release date, the company has not released a new trailer or screenshots from the game. Rockstar, on the other hand, told fans that additional information about the game would be revealed “soon”.

“Grand Theft Auto VI is now set to release on May 26, 2026,” Rockstar stated in its only official GTA 6 update since the game’s announcement. “We apologise that this is later than intended. The interest and excitement about a new Grand Theft Auto game has been extremely inspiring for our entire team. We’d want to thank you for your support and patience while we work to complete the game,” the developer added.

Rockstar stated that it required additional development time to ensure that GTA 6 releases at the high-quality level that fans have come to expect from the studio. The delay will most likely be used to polish the game more before it is released on PS5 and Xbox Series S/X.

“With every game we have released, the goal has always been to try and exceed your expectations, and Grand Theft Auto VI is no exception. We hope you understand that we need this extra time to deliver at the level of quality you expect and deserve,” Rockstar said. “We look forward to sharing more information with you soon.”

The delay is likely to disappoint GTA 6 fans who have been waiting years for its release. On December 5, 2023, Rockstar released the first trailer for the game, which only revealed that it would be released in 2025. In a quarterly earnings call, Take-Two confirmed the Fall 2025 launch timeframe, which CEO Strauss Zelnick has reiterated multiple times.
