WhatsApp ‘Imagine Me’ Feature to Generate Images Using Meta AI

WhatsApp expanded the launch of its Meta AI chatbots in select areas and the instant messaging company appears to have begun developing additional artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities.

The Meta-owned messaging app is purportedly working on a new ‘Imagine Me’ feature allowing users to create AI-generated pictures of themselves. This update has been discovered in the most recent WhatsApp for Android beta release, which is available through the Google Play Beta program.

WABetaInfo, a feature tracker, discovered that the company is developing an optional feature allowing users to create photos of themselves using Meta AI. When users first enable the functionality, the messaging service may request they upload a few reference selfies.

WABetaInfo says to have identified references to the planned AI-based ‘Imagine Me’ feature in the current WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.14.13 version, available through the Google Play Beta program. The feature is currently being developed and cannot be tested after installing the aforementioned WhatsApp beta version on an Android phone.

The report provides a screenshot of the new option, which gives users a sense of how the functionality would look when it goes live. Once users take a single set of photos, the Meta AI chatbot generates fresh AI images.

Users can ask Meta AI to create an AI image of themselves by saying “Imagine me” in the Meta AI chat box. This feature can be used in other chats by entering “@Meta AI imagine me”.

According to the screenshot of the feature, users will be able to add additional backgrounds and locations “from the forest to outer space” to their photos. This is supposed to aid in the creation of personalized stickers. According to WABetaInfo, users may be able to delete uploaded photos at any moment via the settings menu.

WhatsApp’s new customized AI image-generating capability is reported to be optional, and users may need to explicitly enable it in their settings. The feature tracker predicts that it will be available in a future release.
