Voddie Baucham Jr Dies at 56: Family and Legacy

Voddie Baucham Jr, pastor and president of Founders Ministries, passed away on Thursday at the age of 56. His family and the Reformed Baptist organization announced that he suffered “an emergency medical incident,” though the exact cause of death was not revealed.

“We are saddened to inform friends that our dear brother, Voddie Baucham, Jr., has left the land of the dying and entered the land of the living,” Founders Ministries posted on X.


The statement continued: “Earlier today, after suffering an emergency medical incident, he entered into his rest and the immediate presence of the Savior whom he loved, trusted, and served since he was converted as a college student. Please pray for Bridget, their children, and grandchildren.”

Who Was Voddie Baucham Jr?

Full name Voddie Thabiti Baucham Jr, he was a prominent American pastor and Reformed Baptist leader, known for his emphatic preaching and theological writings. Born on March 11, 1969, in Los Angeles, California, Baucham grew up in a Christian home raised by his teenage mother after his father pursued a professional football career.

After earning a bachelor’s degree in education from Houston Baptist University and a Master of Divinity (MDiv) from Western Seminary in Portland, Oregon, he began his first ministry at Grace Family Baptist Church in Spring, Texas.

Baucham later became Dean of Theology at African Christian University in Lusaka, Zambia, and eventually founded Founders Seminary in Cape Coral, Florida, under Founders Ministries. He was widely recognized as a five-point Calvinist and had a large following in Reformed communities in the U.S.

Baucham leaves behind his wife, Bridget Baucham, their nine children, and grandchildren. Bridget, his partner of 36 years since 1989, was a key part of his ministry and a dedicated home educator. The couple met in college and later moved to Zambia in 2015 to plant churches and educate children.
