The University of Michigan’s decision to fire head football coach Sherrone Moore has placed athletic director Warde Manuel under renewed scrutiny, prompting questions about his long-term job security. Although speculation has intensified, there is no confirmed report that Manuel has been fired.
Manuel announced on December 10 that Moore had been dismissed following an internal investigation that uncovered “credible evidence” of an “inappropriate relationship with a staff member.” Hours after his firing, Moore was arrested, further escalating the controversy.
Why Warde Manuel Is Facing Questions
The situation has revived criticism of Manuel’s decision to appoint Moore as successor to Jim Harbaugh, who led Michigan to the 2023 national championship before leaving the program amid an NCAA sign-stealing investigation.
Moore had stepped in as interim coach for six games during Harbaugh’s suspension and was elevated to full-time head coach for the 2024 season.
Moore had already served a two-game suspension related to the sign-stealing probe and was expected to face another suspension at the start of the next season if he remained in the role. His abrupt firing has led some fans and analysts to question Manuel’s judgment and demand accountability.
Despite calls for his removal, no credible outlet has reported any official action regarding Manuel’s employment status.
