Google App Reportedly Prepares New Shortcut

A new ‘AI mode’ that has been identified in development may soon be added to Google Search. A publication has noticed an icon that might be used to symbolize the alleged artificial intelligence (AI) mode. The most recent beta version of the Google app now features a new symbol resembling the Gemini Live feature.

According to reports, this will be the new icon used by the tech giant based in Mountain View for the AI-powered interface of the Search app. According to reports, this new tool, which was first seen in December 2024, provides a full-screen interface where users can write complicated questions that are challenging for conventional search engines to respond to.

According to Android Authority, Google may reorganize a number of icons on the Google app’s home screen before launching the much-discussed Google Search AI mode. During an Android application package (APK) breakdown of the Google app beta 16.6.23 for Android smartphones, the publication noticed the new icons.

Even after updating to the most recent version, beta testers won’t be able to see the new shortcuts and icons because they are still in the testing stage. Nevertheless, the publication’s screenshots provide us with a clear view of the new interface that might take the place of the four current icons for Google Lens’ camera.

Google currently shows shortcuts for search options like music, homework, and translation. Three new icons could take their place. The first icon is a brand-new waveform shape, while the second and third are for the microphone and Google Lens, respectively.

The new icon, which has two more lines than Gemini Live’s icon, is for a new service called Search Live, according to the report. The name was discovered in the Google app’s code. Search Live is thought to be a two-way voice conversation feature for the next AI mode. On the other hand, it can also be an internal term for the AI Mode.

The tech giant is reportedly testing the AI mode internally, according to a report that surfaced earlier this month. Employees reportedly received an email from the company urging them to test and use the feature. It’s unclear if or when users will be able to access the feature.
