Columbus Shooting Near Lindbergh Elementary Leaves 1 Injured

Police in Columbus, Ohio, placed three schools on lockdown Tuesday after a shooting near Lindbergh Elementary School. The Columbus Division of Police said officers were dispatched to Lindbergh Drive around 2:55 p.m. after multiple reports of gunfire near the school’s field.

Sgt. James Fuqua confirmed that a juvenile victim was injured and transported to Nationwide Children’s Hospital, where the teen remains in stable condition. Authorities have not released the victim’s identity.

Schools Under Lockdown

As a precaution, Columbus City Schools placed Lindbergh Elementary and Binns Elementary on a Level 2 lockdown, while Briggs High School was also locked down before later being cleared.

A district spokesperson explained that the lockdowns were coordinated with police to ensure the safety of students while officers secured the area. Parents arriving to pick up their children were asked to wait until law enforcement confirmed the schools were safe.

“Level 2 means the schools were locked down, but classes were able to continue,” a Columbus schools spokesperson said.

All students were eventually released once the all-clear was issued.

Police Investigation Ongoing

Authorities reported that the shooting stemmed from a group altercation involving 20 to 32 people in a nearby park. The confrontation spilled over into a neighborhood south of Lindbergh Elementary School, where shots were fired.

The Columbus police radio room said a 14-year-old was wounded. Officers are still searching for the suspect, who remains at large and is considered armed and dangerous.

Investigators are also searching for the firearm and collecting gun casings from the scene.

Community Response

The Columbus Division of Police has urged anyone with information about the incident to come forward.

“We are continuing to investigate and piece together the sequence of events,” authorities said.

This remains a developing story, with updates expected as police and school officials release more details.
