Atlanta Police Kill Suspect in CDC HQ Shooting at Emory Point

The Atlanta Police Department on Friday fatally shot a suspect who opened fire at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) headquarters at Emory Point inside Emory University’s Atlanta campus.

Multiple reports confirmed the suspect was shot by officers, and the body was found behind the CVS store on Clifton Road, where the incident unfolded.

Lockdown Alert Sent to CDC and Emory University

Details about the suspect’s target have not yet been released by the Atlanta Police Department. However, independent reporter Benjamin Ryan stated on X that the CDC headquarters received an alert at 5:15 p.m. about the active shooter situation.

A lockdown was issued across the Emory University campus shortly after the alert was sent.

Gunfire Damages CDC Building Window

Photos of the CDC building at Emory Point surfaced online, showing cracks on a pane of a window reportedly caused by the gunfire.

Police confirmed that one DeKalb County police officer and a civilian were injured during the incident.

Injuries Confirmed, Conditions Unknown

DeKalb County communications director Dionna Smith confirmed the officer’s injury, stating:

“The nature of the injuries is unknown right now.”

The condition of the civilian has not yet been disclosed.
