Cocoa Shooting Today: Multiple Victims Reported

Brevard County sheriff’s deputies responded Monday, September 6, to reports of shots fired near a seafood restaurant in West Cocoa. The incident occurred around 4:30 p.m. near the intersection of Clearlake Road and Ruth Street, prompting a large law enforcement response.

Several people were reportedly injured, though authorities have not yet confirmed the number or severity of injuries. Witnesses described hearing multiple gunshots and seeing people flee the area.

Law enforcement vehicles, including deputies and investigative units, were deployed to secure the scene and search for suspects. A vehicle possibly connected to the shooting is being actively sought, though no further details have been released.

Authorities Investigate and Search for Suspects

Cocoa police and Brevard County deputies are urging residents to avoid the area while investigations continue. The sheriff’s office is coordinating with other local agencies to review surveillance footage, interview witnesses, and gather information.

Officials have not confirmed whether the shooting was targeted or linked to prior incidents of juvenile or gang-related violence. Deputies are focusing on locating the vehicle involved and warn the public not to approach it if spotted.

Sheriff Describes Shooting as Ambush

“It appears that this was ambush that took place. Some type of retaliatory thing that took place. It appears to be a very isolated incident,” Sheriff Ivey told reporters at the scene.

“One of the vehicles was parked. Another vehicle pulled up, blocked it in, at which time multiple shooters got out and started firing at the vehicle that was parked,” he said.

All three people shot were inside the parked vehicle, Sheriff Ivey said, estimating that between 20-30 shots were likely fired. FOX 35 cameras captured several evidence markers on the ground. A white vehicle within the crime scene tape appeared to have multiple gunshot holes.

Public Safety and Ongoing Investigation

Authorities have not yet identified the victims or provided updates on their conditions. The incident underscores concerns about firearm violence in Cocoa and highlights the ongoing efforts of local law enforcement to respond quickly to active shooter situations.
