iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus

Specifications and Features

The recently introduced iPhone 16 is a dual SIM (US: eSIM, Worldwide: Nano+eSIM) device that runs iOS 18. It is powered by a 3nm octa-core A18 chipset, which includes a 6-core CPU, a 5-core GPU, and a 16-core neural engine. These phones, like the iPhone 16 Pro model, will support Apple Intelligence features announced by the company at WWDC 2024, which will also be available on the iPhone 15 Pro models.

Apple’s iPhone 16 features a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display with up to 2,000 nits of peak brightness, improved Ceramic Shield protection, and Dynamic Island. The device has an IP68 dust and water resistance rating.

The iPhone 16 Plus shares the same characteristics as the standard model, but it features a bigger 6.7-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display. The phones also include the Action button from the iPhone 15 Pro series and a new Camera control button on the right side. The latter allows you to zoom, take pictures, record videos, and do other things with a single tap or slide.

The new devices, like the iPhone 15 series, come with a 48-megapixel wide angle camera with 2x in-sensor zoom and an f/1.6 aperture, as well as a 12-megapixel ultrawide camera with an f/2.2 aperture with autofocus. The ultrawide camera also supports macro photography. The front-facing 12-megapixel TrueDepth camera is ideal for selfies and video calls. The new camera design also supports spatial video and photo capture.

The iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus support 5G, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth, GPS, NFC, and a USB Type-C port. The iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus have up to 512GB of internal memory. Apple does not normally announce the RAM or battery capacities of its iPhones, but these details are expected to be uncovered during handset teardowns.

Pricing

iPhone 16 pricing starts at $799, while the iPhone 16 Plus starts at $899 for the base 128GB variant. Both phones have up to 512GB of storage. Further, the phones will be available in Black, pink, Teal, Ultramarine, and White color options. Pre-orders start on September 13 with sales kicking off on September 20.

iPhone 16 Pro, iPhone 16 Pro Max

Specifications and Features

The iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max are dual SIM (US: eSIM, Worldwide: Nano+eSIM) smartphones that run iOS 18 out of the box. They are powered by Apple’s second-generation 3nm A18 Pro chip, which is said to provide a 15% increase in performance over last year’s models while using 20% less power. Both phones will eventually enable all Apple Intelligence capabilities when iOS 18.1 comes out.

Apple’s iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max have 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch Super Retina XDR OLED screens with a 120Hz refresh rate (ProMotion), up to 2,000nits peak brightness, and enhanced Ceramic Shield protection.

Both iPhone 16 Pro models feature a triple rear camera setup that includes a 48-megapixel wide primary camera with an f/1.78 aperture, an upgraded 48-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera with an f/2.2 aperture, and a 12-megapixel telephoto camera with an f/2.8 aperture and a ‘tetraprism’ periscope lens that provides up to 5x optical zoom performance. The front of the device features a 12-megapixel TrueDepth camera with an f/1.9 aperture for video calls and selfies. The phones also allow 4K recording at 120fps.

In addition to the Action button, which replaced the mute switch last year, Apple has added a touch-sensitive Camera Control button to the new iPhone 16 series, allowing users to access the camera swiftly. Like their predecessors, these phones have an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance.

The iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max both come with up to 1TB of storage. The devices have 5G, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth, NFC, and GPS connectivity, as well as a USB 3.0 Type-C connection.

Apple typically keeps battery capacities hidden, but we can expect these details to emerge during teardown videos. They can be charged at 27W using a compatible charger, or at 15W using a MagSafe or Qi2-compatible wireless charging adapter.

Pricing

iPhone 16 Pro pricing starts at $999 for the base 128GB variant, while the iPhone 16 Pro Max begins at $1,199 for the 256GB option. Customers can also purchase the handsets in 512GB and 1TB storage models, in Desert Titanium, Natural Titanium, White Titanium, and Black Titanium color options.

Apple will start accepting preorders for the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max on September 13, and the phones will be available to purchase via Apple’s website and authorized retailers starting September 20.
