JFK Flight Delays Live: Winter Storm Disrupts NYC Airports

A powerful winter storm disrupted air travel across New York on Friday, triggering widespread delays and cancellations at JFK and other major airports as snow and hazardous conditions intensified.

As of 1:15 p.m. EST, data from FlightAware showed more than 4,200 delayed flights and 1,300 cancellations affecting travel into, within, or departing the United States.

JFK and NYC Airports See Heavy Disruptions

Roughly half of all disruptions were concentrated at New York City’s airports, including John F. Kennedy International Airport, LaGuardia Airport, and nearby Newark Liberty International Airport.

The JFK flight tracker showed delays and cancellations across several major carriers as weather conditions deteriorated through the afternoon.

Airlines Reporting Delays and Cancellations at JFK

Multiple international and domestic airlines were impacted, including:

  • Delta Air Lines
  • JetBlue Airways
  • Qatar Airways
  • American Airlines
  • Alaska Airlines
  • Cathay Pacific
  • British Airways
  • Etihad Airways

Most Flight Cancellations by Airline

As of 1:30 p.m. EST, FlightAware reported the following cancellation totals among major carriers:

  • JetBlue: 225 cancellations
  • Delta Air Lines: 211 cancellations
  • Republic Airways: 157 cancellations
  • Southwest Airlines: 140 cancellations
  • American Airlines: 97 cancellations

Airports in Boston and Detroit also reported significant delays as the storm expanded across the Northeast.

NWS Issues Snow and Travel Warnings

The National Weather Service warned that New York City could receive 5 to 9 inches of snow between 4 p.m. Friday and 1 p.m. Saturday.

The agency urged travelers to consider delaying trips and advised those who must travel to carry emergency supplies, including flashlights, food, water, blankets, and winter safety kits.

“Persons should consider delaying all travel,” the weather service said, warning that road and air travel conditions could worsen rapidly as snowfall intensifies.
