A powerful explosion occurred near Mall del Sol and the Sheraton Hotel in northern Guayaquil, Ecuador, on October 14. The blast, caused by a vehicle detonating in front of the shopping center, left several people injured and caused panic in the area.
Emergency responders, including firefighters, police, and teams from the Guayaquil Municipal Public Company for Risk Management and Security Control, quickly arrived at the scene. They are currently providing medical aid, managing traffic, and securing the site to prevent further risks.
Firefighters and Medical Teams Respond Swiftly
The Bomberos Guayaquil (official fire department) confirmed that they responded to the fire on Av. Joaquín Orrantia. Two firefighting units, one rescue vehicle, and four ambulances were dispatched to the site.
Paramedics treated several injured individuals, and one person was reported to be without vital signs, according to official reports.
Authorities Investigate Possible Car Bomb
Authorities are actively investigating the cause of the explosion. Early reports suggest it could be linked to a possible car bomb. The investigation is being conducted in coordination with the Guayaquil Municipal Risk Management and Security Control Center and the National Police’s Investigative Units.
