Arthur Jones, former Syracuse University standout and Super Bowl XLVII champion, has died at the age of 39, the Baltimore Ravens confirmed Friday.
Jones played a key role in the Ravens’ 2013 Super Bowl victory over the San Francisco 49ers and enjoyed a seven-year career in the NFL. Tributes have praised his “infectious energy” and “kind spirit” both on and off the field.
Syracuse Roots and NFL Career
Jones played college football at Syracuse University from 2006 to 2009, sharing the field with his younger brother, Chandler Jones, a future four-time Pro Bowler.
He was selected by the Baltimore Ravens in the 2010 NFL Draft, spending four seasons with the team. During his time in Baltimore, Jones started 20 games and recorded 100 tackles and 8.5 sacks in his final two seasons.
His defining moment came in Super Bowl XLVII, when he sacked 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick and recovered a fumble, helping the Ravens secure the championship before the game was briefly interrupted by the famous Superdome blackout.
Following Baltimore, Jones played three seasons with the Indianapolis Colts and one season with the Washington Commanders, leaving a lasting impression on teammates and coaches.
