Six people were killed and more than 20 others injured after a truck lost control and plowed into a Ganesh immersion procession in Mosale Hosahalli village, Holenarasipur taluk, Hassan district, Karnataka, India, on Friday evening.

Police: Truck Swerved to Avoid Motorcyclist
According to police, the truck was traveling from Hassan toward Holenarasipur when the driver suddenly swerved to avoid hitting a motorcyclist. The vehicle veered off course and rammed into the crowd of devotees.
“Everything happened in a matter of seconds. People were singing and dancing, and suddenly we saw the vehicle coming straight at us,” a villager told the media.
Deaths and Injuries Reported
Five people died instantly at the scene, while another succumbed to injuries in the hospital. Over 20 others were rushed to nearby medical facilities. At least three victims remain in critical condition, officials confirmed.
Police identified rash driving as the main cause. The driver was speeding, and in an attempt to dodge the biker, lost control of the truck. The injured have been shifted to Hassan District Hospital. Police have arrested the lorry driver.
Investigation Underway
Authorities have registered a case and launched a detailed investigation. Rescue operations were immediately carried out, and officials ensured the injured were transported to hospitals without delay.
The tragic incident comes as thousands across Karnataka were celebrating the Ganesh festival, gathering in large processions across the state.
