Signal has been updated to support a number of new features focused on enhancing the platform’s group call user experience. The latest version of Signal or Android, iOS, and the desktop client now support the new Call Links feature that allows users to start a group call with several users, without creating a separate group chat. Emoji reactions, a new “raise hand” button, and a new calls tab in the Signal app are some of the other additions included in the update.

Users can create a call link and share it with any other Signal user after updating to the most recent version of Signal for iOS, Android, and Signal Desktop. Similar to attending a Microsoft Teams or Google Meet call from a URL, this feature is made to function seamlessly.

In the past, users needed to manually add each member to a group chat before starting a call. Signal currently restricts group calls to 50 members, however, users can now share the Call Link with multiple people in their contact list.

Many people consider Signal to be one of the safest messaging platforms, and according to the non-profit, the Call Links function allows you to manage who can join a call. Each participant must be approved by the person who created the call when the Require Admin Approval option is toggled.

Signal has also introduced a new Raise Hand button, which gives the encrypted messenger the same capabilities as apps like Google Meet and Microsoft Teams, in addition to the new Call Links feature. A list of participants who have clicked the Raise Hand button will also be shown by the app.

The most recent update also adds new call control buttons and other in-call user interface enhancements.
