Roblox Dating Feature: Early Access Soon? Here’s What We Know

Roblox aims to attract 17+ users with plans to explore adult dating features.

Roblox, the popular online platform for gaming and virtual experiences, is setting its sights on an older audience. With over 85.3 million daily active users (DAU) and 380 million monthly active users (MAU) in 2025, the platform has become a global phenomenon. While the majority of its player base has traditionally skewed younger, Roblox is now looking to expand into the 17+ demographic—with dating features potentially on the horizon.

As stated on its official site, “Roblox is the ultimate virtual universe that lets you create, share experiences with friends, and be anything you can imagine.” And now, those experiences may include virtual dating.

A push toward a mature user base

During its 2023 keynote, Roblox revealed its ambition to appeal to older users, with a specific mention of virtual dating as a possible future feature. CEO David Baszucki expanded on this vision in a TechStuff interview, saying:

“I think a lot of people who are too afraid to go on a real-life date might find it easier to have a virtual date to start.”

Baszucki emphasized that the goal is not to turn Roblox into a dating app, but to create a safe virtual environment where adults—particularly those already in relationships—can engage in social experiences.

Safety concerns and age verification challenges

While the dating initiative is geared toward adults, critics have raised concerns about younger users bypassing safety measures. Roblox has long implemented features like ID verification and content filtering, especially for its 17+ voice chat and communication tools.

However, some users have reported minors participating in voice chats within popular games like Squid Game recreations, suggesting that underage users may be using parental IDs to access restricted features.

Despite these challenges, Roblox continues to emphasize user safety. The platform blocks identifiable personal data in chat and requires documentation for access to mature features.

Roblox dating: What to expect and when

There is no confirmed release date for Roblox’s dating feature or its early access program. However, speculation has grown within the community, especially after the 2023 keynote announcement.

With the company’s clear intent to retain older users and diversify its experiences, industry watchers expect testing phases or pilot programs could roll out as early as late 2025 or 2026.

Conclusion: A bold new step for Roblox

Roblox’s move toward adult social experiences marks a major shift in platform strategy, aiming to retain users as they age and explore more complex virtual interactions. While the dating feature is still under consideration, the company’s evolving direction could reshape how people connect online—especially in a post-Zoom world.

Stay tuned for updates on early access, safety enhancements, and official announcements from Roblox.
